The instrument creates a delightful scraping percussive tone when the player rubs the provided striker along the carved grooves. The sound of the guiro is improved by using a gourd because its hollowness creates a resonating chamber. The instrument has also been carefully hand decorated by skilled Peruvian artisans. Size and shape varies slightly.
