Constructed of bronze zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with crossed sword clasp, the obverse with a leftward facing profile of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst, circumscribed by name and title, the reverse with an inscription of DEM VERDIENST 1914 (FOR MERIT 1914), within a circular oak leaf
