His Province of Manitoba Official Registration of Death listed the cause of death as "Drowning" due to a "Military vehicle in which he was riding overturned in a water-filled ditch

with a chevron over the top of the badge in yellow embroidery interlaced with black and red threading

he was transferred to the Ontario Military Hospital at Orpington

It was here that he was awarded a Good Conduct Badge on July 24th
