A Canadian Corps Intelligence Section served in France as a unit of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War

at the age of 27 and was the only fatal casualty of the six Victoria Cross recipients of the 1st Battalion

with silvery-grey paint

Ellis died at the age of 32 and is buried in Cambridge City Cemetery

he returned to duty on August 1st
