Leslie Howard, English actor Size:Standard: 6 x 4in Thomas Martyn was elected aLeslie Howard, English actor, 1933. Howard (1893 1943) made his name playing stiff upper lipped English characters before landing the role of Ashley Wilkes in 'Gone with the Wind' (1939). He returned to Britain from Hollywood to assist with the war effort but was killed when the plane carrying him on a trip to Lisbon was shot down by the Luftwaffe over the Bay of Biscay.
