The sitter holds spectacles or a magnifying glass in his right hand and wears spectacles hanging from a black ribbon. The background is a red cloth or draped hanging. Thomas Young was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1794. Original: oil on canvas, 920x715mm. ca. 1822
