What I think is so brilliant about this little sculptured ceramic vessel with handle is that if you look at it one way

fairly thick walled and heavy for its size

based in Albany New York

and the brass looks very much to me like  melted down shell casings

I find it quite a satisfying thing

Fred Harvey Photomatic Portrait of Young Man with Gun and Bandaid concrete body part What I think is soI assume, as he looks to be holding a real gun, that this very beautiful boy is in fact a very young soldier and I have learned that during WW2 Fred Harvey's Harvey House restaurants re opened to serve soldiers as they traveled in troop trains across the U. S so perhaps that is when this Photomatic was taken. I find it quite a stunning portrait, including for the bright intensity of his gaze and posture, and that bandage stretching from temple to ear.
