The Poet Laureate Charles De Lacy until Rolls Royce took over'The Poet Laureate', 1871. Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809 1892), English poet. One of the most popular English poets, he succeeded William Wordsworth as Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom in 1850 and held the position until his death.
