There appears to be an old repair just to the base (a re-glued split) - minor and barely noticeable

Plus a painted tray in glorious blue and red that sits at top and lifts out to reveal pure red below

The face looks to be a knot in the wood

Carved of oak I believe, with its original glass and wooden back, just waiting for a portrait of a beloved be it boy or bird or otherwise! Wonderfully distinctive faces, beautifully detailed hands, charming birds in profile perched at top and bottom
